the one question we all want answered:
“So why does the CDC continue to defend the IDSA’s view of Lyme disease as a single, acute bacterial infection curable with routine antibiotics, when the preponderance of the available evidence shows that construct to be wrong?”

It is time to recognize that Lyme disease is not a simple bacterial infection.” The evidence goes on and on… -

Persisting viable but non-cultivable B. burgdorferi is now a convincing phenomenon

Dr. Stephen Barthold, who during his congressional testimony said: “Persisting viable but non-cultivable B. burgdorferi is now a convincing phenomenon based upon a number of animal-based (mouse, dog and primate) studies using a number of different antibiotics, and the significance of continued infection indeed needs to be better understood. It is time to recognize that Lyme disease is not a simple bacterial infection.” - See more at:

IF the treating physicians would just CARE to follow and test these patients thoroughly for Borreliosis and co-infections with ANTIGEN tests .............

IF the treating physicians would just CARE to follow and test these patients thoroughly for Borreliosis and co-infections with ANTIGEN tests, which is NOT DIFFICULT, as illustrated in this article! – and treat them for ACTIVE INFECTIONs, instead of mocking these patients by stating FALSELY that “all Borrelia was killed after 10-14 days”, and calling them “hypochondriacs”, I’m quite sure many cases of chronic Borreliosis, long term suffering and disability could be prevented!

Despite improved diagnostic methods, like by doing live video-microscopy / plus specific immune stain for Borrelia, in order to document the presence of spirochete(s) and/or their alternative forms, during all active stages of Borreliosis, the diagnosis of Late (chronic) Borreliosis remains – probably forever – a CLINICAL DIAGNOSIS, that can sometimes, but not always be SUPPORTED by any POSITIVE TEST RESULT, but can NOT BE OUT RULED by any NEGATIVE TEST RESULT! – so LISTEN to the patients, let them write SYMPTOM DIARY!

From Jacksonville's WJCT: "Clark and his team identified lone star ticks removed from humans who tested positive for Lyme bacteria, including the species of Borrelia burgdorferi already known to cause the disease in North America. Some of the ticks removed from the patients tested positive, too."

ALSO FROM SAME STUDY....

"Clark...and his colleagues have found two species of Lyme disease bacteria previously unknown to infect humans in patients. These two Lyme disease species, Borrelia americana and Borrelia andersonii, were found in symptomatic patients living in the Southeastern United States. The commonly found lone star tick, formerly believed by many to be incapable of transmitting Lyme disease, was implicated in some of these cases."

the first step toward winning the war on Lyme is awareness.

Here's another article that once again highlights the desperate need for further research: "For many people, though, the clinical situation is far more complicated. Some who have been infected with borrelia don’t notice the rash. Others—up to a quarter of those with Lyme, including Kaleigh Ahern—never even get one. Most troubling, some patients who are treated continue to suffer from a variety of symptoms long after their therapy has ended. Nobody really knows why they fail to get better.”

"Why patients fail to get better and how scientists can help them is an open question, Specter writes, though patients say the first step toward winning the war on Lyme is awareness."

Gov. McDonnell signs Lyme disease legislation at Loudoun County park

This is very important. Education is power. Knowledge is power,” McDonnell, a Republican, said during the ceremony. “Knowing what your options are from your physician is powerful. And this bill will help to provide more information to patients.”

"Comstock's measure will require state Department of Health officials to provide information to doctors regarding the possibility of inaccurate test results for Lyme – both positive and negative – and an ensuing misdiagnosis. Doctors must then disclose this information to patients."

McDonnellTimes-Mirror Staff Photo/Trevor BaratkoGov. Bob McDonnell ceremonially signed the Lyme Disease Information Disclosure Act of 2013 Tuesday at Claude Moore Park in Sterling. The legislation was championed by state Del. Barbara Comstock (R-34th) and supported by a slew of Northern Virginia lawmakers, many of whom were in attendance for the signing.
Gov. Bob McDonnell joined a pack of Northern Virginia lawmakers in Loudoun County Tuesday for a ceremonial signing of the Lyme Disease Information Disclosure Act of 2013.

The location selection, Claude Moore Park in Sterling, was not by chance. Loudoun and Fairfax counties are ground zero in Virginia for the debilitating Lyme disease, which is frequently spread through ticks and deer.

The Lyme legislation was introduced this year by Del. Barbara Comstock (R-34th) and sponsored by Dels. Tag Greason (R-32nd), Tom Rust (R-86th), David Ramadan (R-87th) and Randy Minchew (R-10th) in the House, all of whom were in attendance during the signing with the exception of Greason.

Comstock's measure will require state Department of Health officials to provide information to doctors regarding the possibility of inaccurate test results for Lyme – both positive and negative – and an ensuing misdiagnosis. Doctors must then disclose this information to patients.

“This is very important. Education is power. Knowledge is power,” McDonnell, a Republican, said during the ceremony. “Knowing what your options are from your physician is powerful. And this bill will help to provide more information to patients.”

Lyme disease is caused by bacteria people acquire after being bitten by ticks infected with the organism Borrelia burgdorferi. That organism is maintained in wild rodents, deer, other mammals and certain ticks, most commonly the black-legged (deer) tick, according to the Loudoun County public information office. Lyme is generally transferred to people by the bite of an infected tick.

McDonnell noted that Virginia is the first state in the nation to pass Lyme disease legislation of this type.

Other elected officials at Claude Moore Park Tuesday included state Sen. Dick Black (R-13th), a major advocate of the legislation in the Virginia Senate, and Loudoun County Board of Supervisors Chairman Scott York (R-At Large) and supervisors Eugene Delgaudio (R-Sterling), Geary Higgins (R-Catoctin) and Janet Clarke (R-Blue Ridge).

I was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in 1996 by the prestigious Lahey Clinic and chased an unresolved fatigue for twelve years eventually ending up bedridden and on oxygen Oct 2008. My illness was a result of undiagnosed Lyme disease and I have been taking antibiotics but did not see measurable improvement for the first sixteen months. Support groups (Lyme disease in the UK: http://www.lymediseaseaction.o/... encourage patients to stay the course even though you may feel little relief. Family members usually recognize improvement in their loved ones before the Lyme patient does. Four and a half years into treatment I no longer have crippling joint pain which required vicodin for relief , no light and sound sensitivities, and energy production has been improving monthly.

I created the following petition on behalf of the families devastated by Lyme disease who have witnessed first hand a community of physicians influenced by the CDC’s ongoing disinformation campaign aimed at promoting the idea that Lyme is little more than a nuisance disease.

Petition: Calling for a Congressional investigation of the CDC, IDSA and ALDF

https://www.change.org/petitio...

In a month’s time this petition has collected 3,581 signatures and 86 pages of heart wrenching stories from across the country as the late stage Lyme epidemic rages out of control while the medical community and state departments of health practice willful ignorance.

The denial of this epidemic and refusal to reimburse for treating persistent infection has caused untold pain and suffering across the nation.

Johns Hopkins published a study that followed patients who were treated from an acute Lyme disease stage but went on to develop debilitating symptoms after the standard IDSA treatment protocol.http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pu...
35% of patients met the definition of post-Lyme syndrome 6 months after treatment and as many as 45% with one major symptom. I have suggested to Dr Aucott he test these patients using Advanced Laboratory Services’ Borellia Culture test. http://advanced-lab.com/news/b... We now have proof that chronic Lyme exists through Advanced Laboratory Services’s Borrellia culture test as the laboratory is reporting positive cultures in 80% of symptomatic post treatment Lyme patient specimens so why is the CDC in no rush whatsoever to embrace this technology?

Because the true epidemic and deceitful handling of late stage Lyme disease will finally be exposed!

Sincerely,

Carl Tuttle

This is an all too familiar scenario. From New York:

"Kaleigh Ahern was twelve years old when a tick bit her. She noticed it “perched” on her shoulder when she was taking a shower one morning. “I thought it was your average, everyday bug...But, when she tried to brush it off, the tick wouldn’t budge."

"Ahern assumed that the doctor would prescribe a prophylactic dose of antibiotics....But he said that he wasn’t going to treat it. “If a rash develops or she starts to have flulike symptoms, bring her back...”

From our neighbors in Florida: "After having her first two children, Melissa began suffering from a myriad of various, seemingly unrelated medical issues, including migraines, multiple disk herniations, joint pain, chronic sinus infections, insomnia, periodic heart rhythm abnormalities, fatigue, and inflammation throughout her body. Her doctors were puzzled by her abnormal test results and clinical presentation, but could not determine the underlying cause. Melissa was forced to abandon her job working as an attorney due to progressive pain while sitting for prolonged time periods, and was deemed to be completely and permanently disabled."

"Breslin said it's not necessary to bring the animal to a veterinarian's office to remove the tick, as most can be extracted at home.

"Be aware of an unexplained limp, however," he said. "That's one of the biggest signs the animal may have Lyme."

The best method to avoid ticks and Lyme, Breslin said, is a preventative one, but cautions people about trusting in any treatment entirely.

"It's like buying a bulletproof vest and standing in front of a line of Uzis, not expecting to get hit," Breslin said.

He recommends using a topical treatment such as Advantix, which contains a pyrethroid, a strong insect repellent, but should only be used on dogs as the chemical is very toxic to cats."

Tiny ticks can create major health problems

Tiny ticks can create major health problems

"According to the Arkansas Department of Health (ADH), Arkansas has some of the highest levels of tick-borne diseases of any state in the country and another big year is expected. More than 900 cases of tick-borne disease were reported to the ADH in 2012. These, according to Dianne Woodruff, included four diseases: anaplasmosis, ehrlichiosis, Rocky Mountain spotted fever and Tularemia. Five people died from tick-borne diseases.

In addition, diseases from tick bites were found in 63 of the state’s 75 counties. Woodruff said illnesses occurred every month of the year, but peaked in June. The actual number of cases is likely higher as many go unreported, according to the ADH."
