Prof Eva Sapi documented ochocerca type microfilarial worms in Connecticut ticks a few years ago, and Willy Bergdorfer noticed large specimens in the batch of ticks in which he found the first evidence of Borrelia burgdorferi.
So it might be worth looking at the manifestations of infection with these types of microfilaria - they are in millions of humans,in the Southern hemisphere, and there are dozens of species.
Perhaps we have a Northern hemisphere species as one of our co-infections?
