Under the Microscope: Lyme disease cases increased over past twenty years


Stony Brook's The Statesman reports on the new Lyme vaccine on the horizon. Would you be willing to try it? After what happened with the last Lyme vaccine, we think we'll take a "wait and see" approach.
More misleading reporting: The article says,"The organism that causes Lyme disease, Borrelia burgdorferi, was first identified at Stony Brook University in 1984." Borrelia burgdorferi (Bb) was first isolated and identified by Rocky Mountain Labs' Dr. Willy Burgdorfer in 1982 (hence, the name of the bacteria. See his story in a post below.). Maybe the reporter meant to write that they first started researching Bb in 1984 at Stony Brook, but writers need to be crystal clear. We're discouraged seeing the way the Lyme disease scientific history has been distorted and manipulated in only a few decades.
