After the discovery by Alan MacDonald of finding Nematode worms in the spinal fluids of MS patients, Alan went back and decided to look at Alzheimer's brain tissue and stain for nematodes using trichrome stain. What he found was what was once invisible became apparent. Alzheimer brains can and do support a parasitic infection. How prevalent the presence of nematodes is in Alzheimer's is as yet unknown and needs to be studied further. But without proper stains they cannot be seen using the standard techniques for amyloid staining or the current methods of Alzheimer's brain research.
