"Massachusetts residents should be on the lookout for symptoms associated with a relatively new tick-borne disease. Health officials are researching the prevalence of Borrelia miyamotoi — a bacterium found in deer (black-legged) ticks — in the area as a cause of illness."
"The state Department of Public Health (DPH) reports B. miyamotoi was identified in New England ticks in 2001. However, Dr. Catherine Brown, a veterinarian with DPH, said it wasn’t recognized as a source of human disease until 2011."
"The first case was reported in Russia."
