House infested after Spanish dog brings brown tick to UK


< PHE was called to investigate a tick infestation in an Essex property in September. Specimens removed from two dogs and the property were submitted to the PHE tick recording scheme and identified as the brown dog tick, a non-native species, more common in the Mediterranean area of Europe and is well known in the southern states of the US. It is associated with the transmission of several diseases which can affect dogs, such as ehrlichia and babesia.
The family had noticed ticks on the dogs and about 100 were seen crawling on the walls, furniture and soft furnishings.>>
